Trans Fat Fact

Lam Soon (Thailand) Public Company Limited would like to clarify with reliable information and assures that our products are free from partially hydrogenated oils which are safe from trans fat.

This is referred to the Notification of the Ministry of Public Health No. 388 B.E.2561 (2018) RE: Prescribed Prohibited Food to be Produced, Imported, or Sold. Based on the scientific evidence, it is indicated that trans fatty acids derived from partially hydrogenated oils have an effect on increasing the risk of coronary heart disease. It therefore determines that partially hydrogenated oil and food products containing partially hydrogenated oil are prohibited to be produced, imported, or sold. This notification shall come into force after 180 days from the date of its publication in the Government Gazette : 13 July 2018. Below is to clarify what the trans fat is, which consumer may wonder.

In fact, trans fat is a particular type of fat that we eat and found in diet. Fat can be classified into 3 main types which are saturated fat, unsaturated fat, and trans fat. The source of trans fat could be found in the following ways.

1.Naturally-occurring trans fat : It is found in animal products such as meat and dairy products which contains trans fat in small amounts.

2.Trans fat derived from Partially Hydrogenated process which is a source of artificial trans fat. It is a type of trans fat that developing the risk of coronary heart disease.

Therefore, the Notification of the Ministry of Public Health No. 388 B.E.2561 (2018) was issued to determine that partially hydrogenated oil and food products containing partially hydrogenated oil are prohibited to be produced, imported, or sold in order to protect consumers in avoiding trans fat that cause the risk of coronary heart disease.

With the confusion of information in several social media distorting the facts of the Company's products. Lam Soon (Thailand) Public Company Limited would like to clarify with reliable information and assures that our products are free from partially hydrogenated oils which are safe from trans fat. The Company's products can be identified as 0 gram of trans fat per serving declared in nutrition information on related product label. According to the Food and Drug Administration's Notification No. 182, B.E.2541 (1998) Re : Nutrition Label, allows the manufacturer to indicate on the nutrition label that the product contains 0 gram of trans fat content if the product contains trans fat less than 0.5 grams per serving. This is because some trans fat can be naturally occurred in small amounts.

As a consequence, the Company has confidence that the Company's products are safe and harmless for consumers, restating the Corporate policy that always adheres and places importance on its product qualities and consumer safety which are always taken into consideration over the past 40 years.
